What Are The Symptoms Of Alzheimer’s Disease?

WHAT IS ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE?

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological condition which causes problems with memory, reasoning, language, coordination and mood. It’s the most common type of dementia and this illness is usually seen in people over the age of 60. Particular therapies and medications may be recommended by neurologists to treat the symptoms in the short term, however, there’s no cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE?

The Cleveland Clinic describes the symptoms of the three stages of Alzheimer’s Disease as follows:

Symptoms of the mild stage of Alzheimer’s

Early symptoms can be seen in the mild stage of Alzheimer’s. One of the most common symptoms is memory issues, which include forgetting recent information such as names, places, or situations.

There are other symptoms and signs of mild Alzheimer’s:

  • Having trouble finding the right words to express thoughts.
  • Losing or misplacing things frequently.
  • Having a hard time making plans or organizing things.
  • Difficulty with problem-solving.
  • Taking more time than usual to do simple routine tasks

However, in the mild stage of Alzheimer’s, people can recognize familiar faces and places.

Symptoms of the moderate stage of Alzheimer’s

Moderate Alzheimer’s is the stage where the symptoms extend the longest. Individuals in the moderate stage of Alzheimer’s most commonly need assistance and support.

The symptoms seen in this stage include:

Symptoms of the severe stage of Alzheimer’s

In the final stage of Alzheimer’s, dementia symptoms are severe. People in this stage need extensive care.

In the severe stage of Alzheimer’s disease, the person often:

  • Complete or almost loss of memory
  • Not familiar with their surroundings
  • Needs support with carrying out routine activities including, walking, sitting and eating
